From Calgery, travelers can rent a car and drive south toward Waterton along the Cowboy trail. Known as the "jewel of the Chinook country," this national park sees few tourists despite its title as a World Heritage Site. The rolling grassy hills and icy glacier sheets welcome visitors into a beautiful region surrounded by mountains that reach almost 3,000 meters high. During the spring, this prairie is full of wildlife and flowers such as mountain lions, moose, lilacs and the rare mountain lady's slipper flower.
While driving along the trail, tourists from Canadian train trips will see numerous small communities that still boast a country-western ambiance. On any given day, these towns will have western antiques and rodeos, while native Chinooks dance to their traditional drum beats. Drivers should stop and grab a pancake breakfast before heading into Waterton.
