New York City travelers who desire adventures up North will have many more opportunities to do so beginning in May. Canada's largest carrier, Air Canada, announced that it would begin to fly into John F. Kennedy International Airport three times a day beginning in May, according to the Montreal Gazette. Natives to the U.S. can plan more outdoor excursions and Canadian rail tours with the increase of northern flights, which can make ideal spring and summer family vacations.

As one of the American city's largest, busiest and most conveniently located international airports, residents of the metropolitan area may want to venture to Canada in the summer when outdoor recreation is at its peak. Planning a sea kayaking excursion in Vancouver at the early signs of spring and summer can be a great way to explore the northern country's natural world, with sightings of sea otters, humpback whales and more.

Travelers who break from the Trans Canadian railway can mount a kayak and paddle through old-growth rain forsets, secluded stone beaches and pods of whales along their journey. The occasional bear foraging on the shores may also be a frequent sighting during the sea adventure. Freya Hoffmeister, a record-breaking sea kayaker who has circumnavigated Australia, Iceland and currently toward completion of South America, shared with National Geographic that circumnavigating Vancouver Island is the perfect trip for aspiring expedition kayakers. This summer, city dwellers who wish for a bit of an outdoor challenge can take advantage of Air Canada's new flight plan and discover the seas of Vancouver.
