The Canadian Railway Hall of Fame promotes the nation's achievements and developments in the train industry. Travelers on Canadian rail tours can visit Big Valley in Alberta to learn more about the companies, individuals and communities that have been inducted into the hall of fame through displays at an outdoor pavilion.

In Big Valley, the 192 Canadian Northern Railway depot serves as the center of the the historical park. Walk around the buildings and view heritage exhibits, or see the ruins of a once bustling train stop. The depot is maintained by the Canadian Northern Society.

One category of inductee that visitors on train trips across Canada can learn more about are heroes of the rail industry. Some of these individuals, like Kevin Lihou and Donald Blain who were inducted posthumously in 2002, performed great feats to save lives or promote train safety. Others, such as Nicholas Morant, contributed to the train industry through acts or service or passion. Morant was a photographer who traveled the country taking pictures of trains and other railway-related things for Canadian Pacific, capturing the beauty and majesty of both the nation and its trains.

The Canadian Railway Hall of Fame selects four nominees for induction annually, and announces them in the middle of the year.
