Visit the Bay of Fundy on train trips across Canada
With 100 billion tons of seawater flowing in and out of it each day, according to its tourism website, the Bay of Fundy can look like a completely different place depending on what time of day someone looks outside. With two massive high and low tide cycles every 24 hours, the landscape changes drastically approximately every six hours. Visitors on Canadian train trips can see this phenomenon for themselves at any of the coastal towns along the bay.
On the New Brunswick side of the bay, tourists can enjoy the sights of St. Andrews, St. Martins, Alma, Saint John, and Hopewell Cape. Wildlife parks, watersports, whale watching, a winery and coastal hiking are all popular activites.
However, on the Nova Scotia side, travelers on Canadian rail tours can do much of the same. Parks, heritage centers, gardens, whale watching and more coastal adventures await. Visitors can get maps and time tables of the tide changes online, as well as view pictues of the astonishing phenomenon.
According to the tourism site, the best way to view the tides are to visit the same area twice, once during high tide and again during low. The best area to view a vertical tidal effect is Hopewell Cape in NB or Five Islands in NS. The most prominent horizontal change takes place in St. Martins, NBl; or Five Islands, NS.
