For travelers on Canadian train trips, the Heritage Park in Calgary, Alberta, is a visit to the old west of the North American country. The largest living museum in Canada, the park features a historical village, town square, automobile museum and a number of seasonal events.

Visiting the heritage town square is like stepping into a urban landscape from the 1930's, '40s and '50s. With restaurants, shopping at the mercantile block, a portrait studio and automobile museum, the square offers a full day of excitement. Purchase clothing, antiques, gourmet groceries or games from the mid-1900's, or spend time wandering through the exhibits in Gastown Alley. The square and museum are open year-round.

The historical village includes costumed townspeople, a replica 1860's trading post, an 1880's pre-railway settlement, 1910 prairie station town and more. The 180 exhibits focus on life in western Canada around the beginning of the Trans Canadian railway and is open from May to September. Tickets cost $19.99 for adults.

Upcoming events at the Heritage Park include a Big Rock brewing course, nightly concerts, luncheons and a Spring Rally. The race features vintage cars and a Depression-era obstacle course that visitors attempt.
