Visit The Market Gallery for some history and food on Canadian train trips to Toronto
The Market Gallery, located in the St. Lawrence Market, is the historical City Hall that was closed by 1902. Boarded up and forgotten for seven decades, the area was converted to an exhibition space in 1979 and stores the city's permanent art collection. Travelers on Canadian rail tours can visit the gallery to see some of Toronto's finest art, featuring cultural and social developments in the city dating to the 19th century.
As it is housed inside the St. Lawrence Market, visitors to The Market Gallery have the opportunity to enjoy some of the finest local foods and crafts as well. With over 120 specialty vendors, the South Market has a shopping center, farmers market and houses workshop events. Visitors can learn about how to prepare different types of fish, make fondue, cook game meats and other culinary adventures.
Visitors to the market on Canadian train vacations can enjoy a day of shopping through the food and craft stalls, view some of the amazing works of art at the gallery or enjoy a lunch at the market kitchen. From handmade jams to cheese, the freshly made foods will leave tourists' mouths watering.
The gallery, located in the South Market, is one of the three buildings that make up the St. Lawrence Market, and is open Tuesday through Saturday till 4 p.m.
