This 8-day Canada train trip packs a lot in - at a leisurely pace. Embrace the laid back culture of Vancouver, lose yourself in the passing sights on the famous Rocky Mountaineer train to Jasper, then spend five days soaking up the splendor of the mountains.

On your Canadian Rockies train adventure you’ll see spectacular snow-covered peaks, vast sweeping forests, turquoise lakes and rushing rivers... Among other wildlife you are likely to see, are elk, bald eagles, and black bears.

EASTBOUND ITINERARY
Westbound is the same, except reversed. See below for details
Day 1 Arrive in Vancouver
One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vancouver is surrounded by towering mountains and sparkling ocean. Depending on your time of arrival, you can relax and dine al fresco or get out and explore on foot or bicycle.

Day 2 On the Rocky Mountaineer – Vancouver to Kamloops
This is the first day of your 2-day Canadian Rockies train journey. There is a gentle pull as the train leaves Vancouver and the smell of eggs, strawberries and buttermilk pancakes wafts from the galley. The coastal scenery is breathtaking; venture out onto the outdoor viewing platform and for unobstructed views and cool fresh air.

Day 3 On the Rocky Mountaineer – Kamloops to Jasper
The exhilaration of your Canada train trip reaches a high when finally you see the distinctive jagged peaks of the Canadian Rockies. You learn about the history of the railroad and spot wildlife as you go. In the late afternoon arrive in Jasper - disembark your train and breathe in the cool, fresh mountain air - the feeling is indescribable.

Day 4 In the Canadian Wilderness – Discover Jasper
Today you join a local tour and experience Canadian wilderness; start exploring the mountains, rivers and lakes all around you - including the Athabasca River, Maligne Canyon and Medicine Lake. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 5 The Icefields Parkway – Jasper to Lake Louise
Rising from your warm bed is difficult this morning but well worth it. Today you journey along one of the most famous highways in the world - the Icefields Parkway. Stop to walk on the Athabasca Glacier and learn about the science of glaciers - in late afternoon your Canada train trip brings you to the beauty of Lake Louise for your overnight stay.

Day 6 The Southern Canadian Rockies – Lake Louise to Banff
Take the time this morning to enjoy Lake Louise, this afternoon it’s off to Banff! A lively mountain town with great restaurants and a low-key cowboy atmosphere, Banff is a welcome change of pace. Enjoy strolling Banff Avenue or try one of the numerous outdoor adventures offered in this outdoor playground. Overnight in Banff.

Day 7 Exploring Banff – Evening Wildlife Safari
Today is the day for a round of golf, a fly-fishing lesson, a relaxing spa treatment, or a ride on a horse into the mountains. (Ask your Canadian Rockies train expert for more details). In the evening we have included a wildlife tour - in search of black bears, elk, bighorn sheep and more. Overnight in Banff.

Day 8 Depart from Calgary
Much too soon you leave the cool crisp air and colorful sights of the Rockies as your Canada train trip comes to an end.

Enjoy the ambiance of a beautiful Banff mountain lodge. After a day of skiing, the Banff Caribou Lodge and Spa is an oasis of relaxation. Comfortable rooms with mountain inspired décor beckon. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is it's own Canadian wilderness resort. The property is made up of many buildings with different room types throughout the resort. Relax by the lake, or enjoy a round of golf on the beautiful Stanley Thompson Golf Course, or enjoy a game of ice hockey on the lodge's pond. Be sure to keep your eyes open for Elk as they walk past your building!

A visually-stunning hotel located in the heart of downtown. Enjoy great views through the floor to ceiling windows. Thoughtful extras include luxury bath amenities, and refreshment centers in every room.

Deer Lodge

Standard

The Deer Lodge is an excellent alternative to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Located less than a five minute walk to the lake itself, this hotel has the second best location in the area. The hotel feels of a small wilderness lodge, with numerous cozy common rooms, dark wood interior, and rooms void of televisions. Sit in the roof top hot tub, where one can soak while surrounded by rocky peaks and the Victoria glacier.
