Detailed Itinerary

(Please note, like most of our Canada rail packages & tours, this railway vacation can be customized to your needs - just ask one of our local experts when you call.)

Day 1 - Begin your Canadian train trip – arrive in Montreal Upon arriving in Montreal, the first words you hear will no doubt be in the fluid language of the locals – Francais. Speak to most residents in English though and they will show you how bilingual the city is as they switch right over to flawless English. Explore this cosmopolitan city and stay overnight in a hotel of your choice (see dates and prices).

Day 2 - French Canada’s Hub - Tour Montreal Today’s tour is a chance to step back in time as you visit all of Montreal’s impressive historic landmarks. Complete your day with a view from the top of Montreal’s namesake – Mont Royal. Overnight in Montreal.

Day 3 - From Metropolis to Old World on VIA Rail’s Corridor Travel through picturesque Quebec countryside today as your Canadian train trip journeys to Quebec City the provincial capital. The views of the famous St. Lawrence river have you captivated. Quebec City is a little taste of Europe in North America. With a historic city wall, hidden alleyways, and centuries old heritage buildings, Quebec City has an old world air that cannot be found anywhere else. Overnight in Quebec City.

Day 4 - Explore Quebec City – then travel from Quebec City to Gaspé on the Chaleur train Spend your day exploring Quebec City on your own. See the Chateau Frontenac, find the cannon ball that calls a tree home in the streets of old Quebec and explore the charming Rue du Petit-Champlain, lined with shops and cafes.

After a full day in Quebec City you are rocked to sleep on the Chaleur train as you continue your Canadian train trip toward Gaspé. Overnight on the train.

Day 5 - Canadian Atlantic Coast – Arrive in Gaspé You can’t help but wake early this morning as Baie des Chaleurs rolls into view and dawn brightens the horizon. One of the friendly onboard attendants converts your sleeping cabin into comfortable seating and you enjoy a tasty breakfast while watching the coastal scenery come into view. The calm, serene scenes of the Gaspé Peninsula are soothing and you welcome the laid back pace of this region. Overnight in Gaspé town.

Day 6 - Discover Forillon National Park – Gaspé to Percé A bit of personal attention starts your day off right as you meet your private driver and expert guide. Forillon National Park is a literal land’s end and it’s all yours to explore today. Natural Quebec is as awe inspiring as its big cities. Drive along the Atlantic coast and do your best to keep your focus on the road. Overnight in Percé.

Day 7 - Explore Bonaventure Island – Tour the Percé Region A short cruise brings you to Bonaventure Island for breathtaking views of scenery and wildlife - 250,000 birds nest here. Bonaventure is like a land all its own – so close to town, yet a mecca for fragile wildlife. You cruise past Percé Rock; water slowly laps against its sides, mirroring the peaceful atmosphere around you.Overnight in Percé.

Day 8 - Canadian train trip continues to Montreal on VIA Rail’s Chaleur Train Purchases from the quaint town’s art galleries fill any leftover space in your suitcase this morning. Percé’s reputation as a beachside destination stretches back into the 1930’s and this afternoon’s stroll around the village shows you why.

Return to your comfortable train car today and enjoy the journey back to Montreal. The impeccable food, service and company never ceases to amaze you. Overnight on the train.

Day 9 Far too soon your Canada railway adventure ends – depart Montreal With the memories of your Quebec train trip fresh in your mind, your adventure comes to an end when your train arrives in Montreal.
