Detailed Itinerary

(Please note, like most of our Canada rail packages & tours, this Canadian Rockies and west coast railroad vacation can be customized to your needs).

Day 1 –Your Canadian Train Vacation Begins – Arrival in Vancouver
Welcome to the Canada’s west coast city of Vancouver. You can’t help but begin to unwind as soon as you arrive. Surrounded by mountains and ocean and well known for its cool ambiance and friendly residents; Vancouver is the ideal place to sit at a sidewalk café to watch the world go by. Overnight in Vancouver (your choice of 3, 4 or 5 star hotels - see dates and prices).

Day 2 – On the Rocky Mountaineer railway - Vancouver to Kamloops Enjoy a private transfer to the train station and embark on one of your most unforgettable trips - on board the Rocky Mountaineer. Sit back and relax as you watch the ever changing landscape of British Columbia pass you by. Cross the coastal Mountains into the rugged beauty of the interior and follow the rushing torrents of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers before entering into Kamloops for the night.

Day 3 – On the Rocky Mountaineer train - Kamloops to Banff
All aboard the Rocky Mountaineer train today for the second day of your train vacation. Relish the spectacle of snow-capped peaks, vividly-coloured lakes, glistening glaciers and alpine meadows as the train goes across the national parks of Yoho and Banff. The majestic mountain ridges of the Canadian Rockies tower high above the meandering railroad as you enter into the charming resort town of Banff.

Day 4 – Explore the Southern Rockies - Banff
Banff is the liveliest of the mountain towns on your Canadian train trip and the energy on Banff Avenue is contagious. Quaint shops are interspersed with chain stores, horse drawn carriages line the street waiting to show you around town, and the scent of homemade maple fudge wafts out of sweet shops. Overnight in Banff.

Day 5 – The Icefields Parkway in the Canadian Rockies - Banff to Jasper Heading north in the Canadian Rockies, along the Icefields Parkway, you’re traveling along one of the most scenic highways in the world - so wipe the sleep from your eyes quickly! Take one of the Snocoach tours on the Athabasca Glacier and it will amaze you with the wonders that nature builds - and that feeling only gets more intense when you stop to view Bow Lake. A stop at Lake Louise can also not be missed! Picture pure glacier water shining turquoise in the sun, with the Bow Glacier high above the pool – this kind of view is why you came to the Canadian Rockies. As you step off the bus in Jasper, you’re geared up and ready to explore one last town in the mountains before continuing your Canadian Rockies train vacation.

Day 6 – In The Canadian Rockies - Discover Jasper Tours
Enjoy one of our guided tours around the resort town of Jasper including a cruise on Maligne Lake.

Day 7 - Canadian Rockies by Train - Jasper to Prince George onboard VIA Rail’s Skeena
The second train portion of your Canadian rail trip begins today as you take a seat in a comfortable, reclining chair. The train’s whistle echoes your enthusiasm as you begin your northwest bound rail trip to the west coast of Canada. All around you are windows – 180 degrees of spectacular scenery surround the Skeena train as you travel through the dense forest of northern British Columbia, Canada. Small communities and native history are just outside your window, so you’re sure to keep your gaze outside. You won’t miss any of the scenery during the night as you arrive in Prince George for an overnight stay.

Day 8 – Canadian Train - Prince George to Prince Rupert onboard VIA Rail’s Skeena Continue west back onboard VIA Rail’s Skeena train. Enjoy the rugged beauty and
pioneering character of a landscape once solely traveled by First nation people and fur traders. The train follows the turbulent currents of the Skeena River traveling through the spectacular canyons and open valleys between mountain ridges. Overnight in Prince Repert.

Day 9 – The Inside Passage - Prince Rupert to Port Hardy The Inside Passage delights your senses and keeps you wide-eyed all day. This is Canadian West Coast scenery at its finest. Calm inlets, majestic old-growth forests, and towering coastal mountains. The salt-tinged air of the Pacific Ocean fills your lungs as the breeze tickles your face. Arrive late this evening in Port Hardy for an overnight stay.

Day 10 - Your Canadian Vacation Continues - Port Hardy to Victoria
Travel south along Vancouver Island today as your luxury motorcoach makes its way along the Island’s coast. This scenic transfer takes you to the outdoor art murals in Chemainus and introduces you to the two curious residents at Coomb’s Old Country Market - two goats who are sure to bring a smile to your face. Tonight you arrive in Victoria and it’s British-like charm.

Day 11 - Victoria
Enjoy one of our tours of Victoria and the colorful splendor of the Butchart Gardens. Trail after trail of manicured plants and flowers wait in the gardens – you can’t help but want to inhale the fragrance of each and every one. Visit Victoria’s historic heart and experience its’ quaint colonial demeanor, reflected in such gracious landmarks as the parliament buildings, the Royal British Columbia Museum and Bastion square. Overnight in Victoria.

Day 12 - Victoria to Vancouver
Choose to spend the day in Victoria again exploring this city or head out early to make the most of your time in Vancouver. Travel by motorcoach which will board right onto a BC ferry for your 1 1/2 hour ferry ride to the Canadian mainland and Vancouver. Transfer to downtown Vancouver where you will spend the next 2 nights.

Day 13 - Vancouver, Canada
You have a full day to explore the city of Vancouver. Included today is one of our hop-on hop-off trolley tours, taking in the sights of historic Gastown, English Bay, Granville Island, the colorful totem poles of scenic Stanley Park and much more. Overnight in Vancouver.
