Day 1 – Arrive in Vancouver
One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vancouver is surrounded by mountains and ocean. Depending on your time of arrival, you can relax and dine al fresco, take a trip out to Stanley Park, or try one of the many tours on foot or bicycle.
Day 2 – On the Rocky Mountaineer – Vancouver to Kamloops
This is the first day of your 2-day Canadian Rockies by rail journey. There’s a gentle pull as the train leaves Vancouver and the smell of eggs, ham and hot tea wafts from the galley. The passing scenery is breathtaking; step out onto the outdoor viewing platform and feel the cool wind against your cheeks.
Day 3 – On the Rocky Mountaineer – Kamloops to Jasper
The exhilaration of your Canada train trip continues when finally you see the distinctive jagged peaks of the Canadian Rockies. You will learn about the history of the railroad and spot wildlife as you go. In the late afternoon, the train pulls into the station in Jasper. Breathe in the cool, fresh mountain air of the Rockies -- you’ve arrived!
Day 4 – In the Canadian Wilderness – Tour to Maligne Lake
Today you join a local guide and experience the Canadian wilderness firsthand. Keep an eye out for antlers peeking through the trees as you explore mysterious Maligne Canyon, abundant in wildlife. Stop at Medicine Lake and then green-blue Maligne Lake where you will enjoy a boat cruise to Spirit Island. Overnight in Jasper.
Day 5 – The Icefields Parkway – Jasper to Lake Louise
Today you travel with a small group along the spine of the Rockies, on what is surely one of the most beautiful roads in the world - the Icefields Parkway. Stop to enjoy a picnic lunch and a walk on the Athabasca Glacier, and discover the secrets of Jasper National Park’s geology. In late afternoon your Canada train vacation brings you to the stunning Lake Louise, the picture perfect overnight stop in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.
Day 6 – The Southern Canadian Rockies – Lake Louise to Banff
After enjoying Lake Louise (make sure to ask us for all the wonderful optional activities here), meet a guide to wind your way to Banff on an interpretive transfer. Banff is lively mountain hamlet with world class eateries and vibrant atmosphere. Enjoy strolling Banff Avenue, and mingling with fellow visitors. Overnight in Banff.
Day 7 - Exploring Banff
Fill your lungs with cool, fresh Rockies air! A guide takes you and a small group to explore the sleepy mountain town of Banff and it’s stunning backdrop, on a half day tour. Aftewards, venture to the summit of Sulphur Mountain on a Gondola ride.
The lofty peak is reached by a gondola swinging beneath the cable far above the valley floor and surrounded by jagged Canadian Rockies peaks, with the Bow River glistening in the distance (note that gondala package only runs in peak season May-October). Overnight in Banff.
Day 8 - Depart from Calgary
Much too soon you leave the fresh air and colourful sights of the Rockies as your Canada train trip comes to an end.
